EXHIBITION CODE YELLOW & SUNNY | WIM OEPTS
01.07.20 – 27.09.20
Museum Henriette Polak in the Hanseatic city of Zutphen is well-known in the Netherlands as a museum which specializes in figurative art, sculptures and paintings predominantly, which is firmly based in the academic tradition, yet the artists in the permanent collection do not shy away from experiments and abstraction. The work of Dutch artist Wim Oepts (Amsterdam, 1904 – Paris, 1988) is a good example. His highly appealing paintings of the South of France resonate with the visitors, so much so that they visit the museum time after time to be transported instantly to their favourite holiday country.
As an antidote against the limitations which the coronavirus imposes, Museum Henriette Polak which owns the largest collections of paintings by Oepts in the Netherlands, presents ten colourful impressions of the French countryside.basking in the warmth of the sun. As Oepts said himself: ‘the surface has to vibrate… I leave out that what I consider inconsequential and attempt to translate that what remains into colour’. The mountainous landscape, purple lavender fields, leafy village streets and squares evoke an atmosphere of well-being. Come and enjoy!
The current presentation of Oepts work is supported by Vereniging Rembrandt and the Turing Foundation to showcase the strenght of permanent museumcollections.
